First Race: Gail Perkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Awareness 5k

On Saturday, September 11, 2010 I ran my first race.  It was the Gail Perkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Awareness 5k in Raleigh.  It was so much fun.  My two good friends, Stephanie and Brandon, ran the race as well as my brother in law, Todd.  Bill brought the kids down to greet me at the finish line, which was awesome.  The course was much more challenging than any I ever practiced.  The last quarter mile or so was all up hill, and I thought for sure there was no top.  The excitement, however, helped me to finish within my goal.  I had hoped for a 30 minute race, and I finished at 30:04.  Now I can’t wait for the next one, and completely understand why so many people love running so much.
